L’Aumonier

Sophie and Thierry Chardon met in Paris while Sophie was studying and Thierry was working as a firefighter.

Both were Loire-natives and the pull of the region saw them moving back and Sophie inheriting 7 hectares from her grandfather. Like many just starting out, their plan was to sell their fruit to a negoce, but then they were contacted by a retiring grower who offered them a further 25 hectares. Thus, they founded Domaine de L’Aumonier in 1996 in the far eastern reaches of the Touraine appellation. In 2003, they converted to organic viticulture and received certification from Ecocert three years later. They are transitioning to biodynamic farming and expect to be certified as such by the harvest of 2022.

They couple now own 34 hectares of vines, with the core of their holdings being to Sauvignon Blanc but now also boasting some Chenin Blanc which produces a terrifically luscious and age-worthy wine, not dissimilar to Vouvray, a number of reds and some sparkling wine. There is an unmistakable style of the wines from Sophie and Thierry; intensely fruity with hints of the tropical paired with freshness and definition.
